As a customer, you will be required to hire a crew (we can help with that) if you don’t have the experience to crew the vessel yourself. Just like a car rental, you have a damage deposit (credit card hold) of $10,000. The vessel is insured beyond the damage deposit. You will have to bring your own food and beverages or we can help you find a catering company. On multi-day charters, you will have to top-off diesel and gasoline at the fuel dock prior to closing. We are here to make chartering the bareboat as easy as possible. Please call with any questions and we can provide you with a formal quote.

How much does a Bareboat Charter cost?

The bareboat daily rates are published above, there are some fees depending on what you need (also published above).

-Paper Towels

-Toilet Paper

-Hand Soap, Dishwashing Soap, and Sponge

-Diesel and Gasoline:

Multi-day Charters – Top off diesel and gasoline at the fuel dock and pay them directly, if unable to top off the last day of charter there will be a $65.00 fueling fee on top of the actual cost of the diesel and gasoline.

Single-day Charters – Diesel and gasoline are included.

-Tax and Processing Fee – 10.5%

-Food and Beverages – The customer stocks the boat or we can help you hire a catering company/ food delivery company.

-Crew (if needed)– Crew cost if needed is negotiable and start at $105 per hour for a captain with deckhand up to a cap of $700 per day as a ball park figure. We can help with crew availability, contact information, and recommendations.

-Extended Check Out (if crew is not needed) – $250 is a 3-hour familiarization sail usually conducted two days prior to a bareboat booking to familiarize you with the vessel and demonstrate proficiency. This is a one-time event and if satisfactory will not be required on additional bareboat bookings. If your proficiency needs a little more work, we can offer you a full day of instruction one day prior to your bareboat booking at $750 or you can hire a crew.

-Early Boarding Fee – $495 If you would like to board the day prior (After 3PM) to get settled in and stay at the slip (Burton Chase Park). If you have any special requests feel free to ask, we’ll do our best to accommodate you. Please contact us at +1-361-834-8457 to discuss your charter, we can then provide you with a formal quote, happy sailing!

We require a significant amount of experience to be able to Bareboat Whiskey Business as your own captain. Please submit your sailing resume with your booking request. We will follow up with you with one or more of three available options:

  1. You can captain the vessel without an Extended Check Out

If you need further instruction, you can hire one of our instructors for a day of instruction. The cost is $750 on the first day of your Bareboat Charter or you can hire a crew.

If I'm concerned about sea seasickness, what should I bring with?

Please consult a doctor, below is a non-professional opinion:

Sea Sickness Considerations

Avoiding Sea Sickness

A fun day out on the water just might turn into one of the worst days of your life. It’s rare in calm seas, but it hits some people even on the calmest of days. If you are prone to car sickness in any way, we need to prepare. Sea sickness is 99% preventable but not very curable. There are many remedies for sea sickness and the most popular of these is the worst. I’m referring to Dramamine. Not only is it a poor sea sickness medication but the side effect of “sleepiness” can ruin your fun also. Here is a list in order of effectiveness:

Scopolamine:

For the hardcore “I always get seasick” and “I get sick easy” types. This remedy is also referred to as “the patch” and can be obtained by prescription from your doctor. It looks like a little round Band-Aid and is worn behind your ear. There are a certain percentage of people who have adverse side effects to this medication. It is suggested that try this remedy for the first time on landside.

Bonine:

This is the best pill form, over the counter remedy. Highly recommended! Generics are reported to be less effective. You will need to get the stuff working in your system well in advance of the trip. There’s little to no side effect. The biggest mistake with pill form remedies is that they take their first dose either right before or right after stepping on the boat. The biggest mistake people make with the pill form is that they take their first dose either right before or right after stepping on the boat. That’s too late! It has been recommended taking one dose the night before your trip and another one the morning of. For a long trip, don’t forget to take one the morning of.

Sea Band:

These are pressure point therapy wrist bands. Most people discount this remedy because it “sounds” like a gimmick. They work! There is also an electronic shock version but, the non-electric ones work just fine. The nice thing is this remedy can work along with others, without interference.

Ginger:

You can find it in pill form, candied, raw, powdered, dehydrated, in cookies, ect. Ginger settles your stomach quickly and, just like with Sea Band, ginger can be added along with other remedies without conflicting with them.

Go easy on dinner the night before and breakfast in the morning before you go out.

How many Life Jackets are onboard and are there Kids Life Jackets?

There are 12 Type 1 Adult Life Jackets and 2 Type 5 Paddle Board Life Jackets in the port cockpit locker. We don't provide kids life jackets because they have to fit the child per USCG standards. Kids under the age of 13 must wear the life jacket when on the vessel (outside the cabin). It is recommended that your child is fitted with an appropriate size life jacket prior to the charter. There is a West Marine one block from the pick up location if needed. For more information on child Life Jackets, please visit: https://www.boatus.org/life-jackets/infographic/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI5Z-Q6reZ6wIVXiCtBh3QDATREAAYASAAEgJKjfD_BwE
